A Nigerian woman has shared an emotional account of how a friend allegedly left her three‑month‑old baby with her family back in 2018, only to resurface almost eight years later seeking custody of the child.
She explained that the friend arrived at her house with the infant, claiming she needed to pick up something, but then vanished without a trace.
After waiting for hours, the woman and her own mother brought the baby to the friend’s family home, hoping the grandmother would take him in.
The Friend’s Account
She recalled, “She said she would return after getting something, but she never came back. We took the baby to her mother’s house, but she refused to keep him and told us to bring him back because she had no interest in caring for any child.”
With no one else willing to look after the infant, the woman and her mother took full responsibility for raising the boy.
They purchased formula, clothing and diapers, nursed him through sickness, enrolled him in school, and over time developed a deep bond with him.
The Mother’s Return
She added, “Now the child is about to turn eight, and his birth mother has reappeared, saying she wants to be reunited with him. She even insisted she would do whatever it takes to make sure he leaves us. I have faced insults, bullying and harassment over this situation, and honestly I’m at a loss for what to do next.”
The story has generated a mix of reactions online. Many sympathize with the woman and commend her for raising the child, while others believe the biological mother also deserves a chance to reconnect with her son.
The case has renewed debates about parental responsibility, child welfare, and whether genetic ties should outweigh years of care and emotional attachment.
