An individual revealed a shocking story claiming that a former online scammer, who had testified in church about leaving cybercrime behind, subsequently compromised the pastor’s WhatsApp account and swindled numerous congregation members before vanishing.
The narrator explained that the testimony was greeted enthusiastically by the church members and the pastor, who thought they were witnessing a genuine change in his life.
He said the congregation arranged a modest welcome gathering and even gave him a cake.
He added that, two weeks after the celebration, the pastor named him as an admin of the church’s WhatsApp group, citing his apparent dedication and eagerness to help fellow members.
Congregation Stunned by Betrayal
While describing the event, he remarked, “A former fraudster arrived at our church to declare he had quit online scamming. Everyone, including the pastor, was pleased, and the church held a small celebration with a cake for him.” He noted that the congregation accepted the story as evidence of a sincere lifestyle shift.
He continued, stating that two weeks after the celebration the pastor appointed him as a WhatsApp group admin, noting his reliability and quick response to members’ requests. However, last week he allegedly breached the pastor’s WhatsApp account, defrauded about half of the congregation, and then disappeared. These allegations remain unverified.
Online Debate Erupts Over the Story
The story has sparked extensive discussion on social media, with many commentators emphasizing the need to balance mercy with adequate safeguards when assigning trusted roles.
As the conversation unfolds, several observers have advised faith‑based groups to bolster their digital defenses and scrutinize who gains access to official communication channels to curb online fraud.
