ADC Leader Eze Rebukes Wike Over Claim That Atiku Cannot Win 2027 Presidency
A senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has denounced remarks attributed to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who allegedly boasted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would never become Nigeria’s president in 2027.
Wike reportedly asserted that he controls the political machinery needed to thwart ADC’s presidential bid again in the upcoming election.
Eze described the comment as arrogant and indicative of a perilous mindset that attempts to place one individual above the collective will of millions of Nigerians.
He stressed that in a democratic system, no single office‑holder, irrespective of rank or perceived influence, can unilaterally decide who occupies the presidency.
The ADC chieftain urged Nigerians to seek clarification on what Wike means by “structure.” Is it a framework rooted in popular mandate and goodwill, or one built on manipulation of state institutions, intimidation of rivals, deployment of security forces, and abuse of governmental power?
Eze noted that prevailing hardships — hunger, insecurity, soaring living costs, and economic instability — have reshaped voters’ political awareness, making the populace more resolved to reclaim the nation from leaders whose actions have exacerbated its challenges.
He warned that the era when a handful of powerful figures could convene behind closed doors to dictate the country’s destiny is rapidly fading.
According to Eze, rising political consciousness, especially among youths, will hinder any politician from imposing personal preferences on the electorate.
He reminded readers that political influence is transient; history shows that individuals once deemed indispensable eventually learn that ultimate authority resides with the people.
Eze cautioned against the dangerous illusion of political invincibility, emphasizing that no leader remains relevant forever and that voters hold the final say to reward or reject leaders at the ballot box.
He added that many Nigerians continue to suffer from the consequences of current administration policies, which have deteriorated living standards and eroded trust in government.
Instead of indulging in premature political boasting, Eze urged public officials serving under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to concentrate on addressing the pressing difficulties faced by ordinary citizens nationwide.
