Renowned Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy (born Collins Ajereh) has revealed how the dissolution of Mo’Hits Records, which he co-founded with D’banj, became a pivotal lesson in resilience for his career.
The hitmaker behind tracks like “Dorobucci” disclosed he nearly left Nigeria after Mo’Hits ended. “I almost packed up to move abroad,” Don Jazzy confessed. Encouragement from friends convinced him to stay and launch Mavin Records, now a powerhouse in Africa’s music scene.
Reflecting on the experience, Don Jazzy stated: “When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. Friends encouraged me to stay and start again. Mavin Records was born from that moment. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me.”
Today, Mavin Records represents top Nigerian talents including Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Johnny Drille, and DJ Big N. The label’s global reach expanded significantly in 2024 when Universal Music Group acquired majority stake.
This strategic investment positions Mavin for accelerated international growth. It validates the label’s influential role in shaping contemporary Afrobeats and amplifying Nigerian artists worldwide.
