Atiku Alleges Plot to Exclude ADC from 2027 Elections
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned of a fresh scheme by elements within the ruling establishment aimed at keeping the African Democratic Congress (ADC) off the ballot in the 2027 general election.
He described the alleged move as “a coordinated onslaught by anti‑democratic forces inside the ruling party.”
Atiku questioned why the All Progressives Congress would fear the ADC if it were truly confident in its popularity, insisting that the opposition party represents the most credible alternative.
He accused the ruling establishment of deploying political and legal tactics to weaken the opposition, claiming that neutral institutions are being dragged into partisan battles.
“The ballot is sacred, and any attempt to tamper with it is an attack on the Republic itself. The desire for change cannot be outlawed; hope cannot be deregistered; democracy cannot be subverted by administrative fiat,” he said.
Atiku called on the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, civil society organisations and the diplomatic community to resist any action that could undermine the electoral process.
He urged Nigerians to stay vigilant, stating that democracy flourishes only when citizens refuse to be indifferent and that eternal vigilance remains the price of liberty.
