Atiku’s Aide Sounds Alarm Over Opposition’s Future
Paul Ibe, a close aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has taken to his 𝕏 account to warn opposition leaders that there is “no hiding place” for them as President Bola Tinubu allegedly moves to crush dissent.
Ibe described the recent Lokoja Federal High Court ruling — which overturned an earlier decision on the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) — as a “wake‑up call” for the opposition. He argued that the judgment reveals Tinubu’s intent to weaken opposition parties and pave the way for a de facto one‑party state.
He further claimed that, if left unchecked, Tinubu would “obliterate the opposition” and jeopardise Nigeria’s hard‑won democracy ahead of the 2027 general election.
In his post, Ibe wrote:
The decision of the Federal High Court Lokoja in setting aside its earlier judgement on the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) should be a wake‑up call that there is no hiding place for the opposition as the incompetent and clueless Tinubu @officialABAT sets his sights on enthroning a de facto one‑party state.
His message is loud and clear: that he will obliterate the opposition and destroy our hard‑won democracy if he does not have his way in the 2027 election. It is not too late for the opposition to harmonize their strengths ahead of 2027 if the Yar’Adua 2.0 President Tinubu is to be retired to either Bourdillon or Iragbiji!
Ibe urged opposition figures — including Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party leader Rabiu Kwankwaso — to unite their strengths and present a formidable front against what he perceives as an authoritarian drift.

The aide’s remarks come amid growing concerns over political space in Nigeria, with many observers warning that recent legal and administrative actions could undermine multiparty democracy.
