Mr Ibu’s Family Faces Hardship After Actor’s Death
The family of late Nollywood actor and comedian John Ikechukwu Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, has issued an urgent appeal for assistance, describing the severe hardship they have endured since his passing.
According to relatives, Mr Ibu’s only daughter and two sons have dropped out of school because the outstanding fees could not be settled.
The children’s mother added that the household has been without electricity and running water for several weeks, as the family cannot afford the utility bills.
She explained, “We fetch water from a well because I have not paid the house rent. The light has been cut off for two months now, and we spend each night searching for a place to charge our phones. It is not easy.”
Mr Ibu’s daughter directly appealed to Nigerians and her late father’s colleagues in the entertainment industry, saying:
“I want to thank God for my mom, who did everything she could to feed us, pay our school fees, and keep us happy. Nigerians, if you worked with my dad in the industry, please come and meet us.”

The mother also disclosed that the school had recently sent a notice about the children’s unpaid fees, reinforcing the family’s financial strain.
Mr Ibu underwent a leg amputation in November 2023 after a prolonged illness that required multiple surgeries. He died in Lagos on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62, following a cardiac arrest.
