Rufai Oseni Slams Bayo Onanuga for Dismissing Peter Obi’s Call for Tinubu’s Resignation
Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, for his reaction to Peter Obi’s appeal for the President to step down.
Onanuga labelled Obi’s stance as puerile and described the former Anambra State governor as childish, arguing that there is no basis for comparing the United Kingdom’s political developments with Nigeria’s current situation.
The presidential spokesperson added that Tinubu enjoys widespread popularity among Nigerians and was elected to a fixed four‑year term, unlike the UK’s parliamentary system.
Speaking on a Tuesday morning programme, Rufai reminded listeners that the All Progressives Congress (APC) once demanded the resignation of former President Goodluck Jonathan before taking power in 2015.
He asked, “Was the APC also childish when it called for Jonathan’s resignation? The same reasons they gave then have materialised under their own administration.”
Rufai further noted that the APC had threatened to form a parallel government if they lost the 2015 election, an act he described as tantamount to anarchy, and pointed out that they defended that position on television.
He concluded, “They didn’t only say it, they went on TV to defend it. So when Obi calls for resignation, they label it puerile.”
