The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship election, Wole Oluyede, has refused to accept the official results, stating that the outcome does not reflect the voters’ will.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that All Progressives Congress (APC) hopeful Biodun Oyebanji secured victory with 319,224 votes. Oluyede trailed far behind with 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.
In a statement issued on Monday, Sanya Atofarati, Director of Media and Communications for the Oluyede Campaign Organisation, alleged that the election was marred by vote‑buying, voter intimidation, harassment of opposition supporters and actions that undermined the credibility of the process.
Atofarati further accused certain security personnel of compromising public confidence, claiming they acted contrary to their duty of neutrality and instead influenced the election in a way that suggested a predetermined outcome.
The campaign organisation urged its supporters to remain calm while consultations continue on the next steps, reiterating its commitment to pursue justice through all lawful and democratic means available.
