Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has confirmed he is fully fit and available for England’s 2026 World Cup Group L match against Ghana, after overcoming a minor injury concern.
Rice Addresses Injury Concerns
He was substituted during England’s opening win over Croatia due to lower‑back and neural hamstring discomfort, but insisted the move was purely precautionary.
Rice told reporters, “Yes, I’m ready. I’m fit and raring to go. I think it was a smart decision (to take me off).” He added that he had been managing the neural hamstring pain since Christmas with Arsenal.
The midfielder explained that taking him off early was aimed at preventing any further setback, noting that the last 20 minutes of a game are when most injuries occur.
Backing Bukayo Saka
Rice also expressed confidence in teammate Bukayo Saka, saying the winger’s Achilles issue is being managed correctly and that he expects Saka to make a significant contribution.
“One hundred per cent, yes. It’s been really good the way we’ve been managing him,” Rice remarked, highlighting the amount of football Saka has played.
Training Boost and Line‑up Expectations
Both Rice and Marcus Rashford took full part in Saturday’s training session, putting them in contention to start. Head coach Thomas Tuchel is expected to consider lineup changes, with England enjoying six days of rest since their opening fixture. The England vs Ghana clash will kick off at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23.
