INEC Declares APC Candidate Winner of Kebbi Assembly By-election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Rabiu Garba Aiki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, won the Zuru State Constituency by-election in Kebbi State.
Aiki secured 4,887 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party, who garnered only 168 votes.
Election Statistics
According to the official results, Aiki led in all ten wards of the constituency. Out of 109,385 registered voters, 5,156 were accredited for the poll. The commission recorded 5,055 valid votes, with 95 ballots rejected.
The by-election was called to fill the vacancy left by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru. His passing had left the Zuru constituency without representation in the state legislature.
Voter Turnout and Security
Although the exercise was largely peaceful, voter turnout remained low. Only about 4.7 % of eligible voters participated. Security agents and election officials were present at polling units, and no major disruptions were reported.
With this victory, the APC retains the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, further strengthening its position in the state legislature.
