Umahi’s Warning to Peter Obi
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed claims by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that his life is under threat. He urged Obi to desist from verbal attacks against President Bola Tinubu.
Umahi warned he would also attack Obi, saying, “If Peter Obi attacks Tinubu, I will attack him.” He attributed Obi’s statement to frustration, noting that the visible development and inclusion of the South East zone under President Tinubu has become a major threat to Obi’s acclaimed popularity in the region.
He said, “Nobody wants Obi dead; it’s not reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again. What he fears is because he claimed the South East is his catchment area due to the last election — an accident of history. Yet we have brought visible development to the zone, and our people now agree we are better off with President Tinubu completing the good works he is doing for us than engaging in artificial‑intelligence‑style politics.”
The minister reiterated his readiness to debate Obi on the many gains of the present administration and why the South East should be grateful for its inclusion in national politics.
“Some people ask why I’m attacking Obi, my brother. I’m not attacking him; I’m just stating the truth. He should stop attacking President Tinubu and instead support and commend the ongoing infrastructure development in the South East and beyond.”
“President Tinubu will be in office until 2031 to complete the good jobs he is doing across the six geopolitical zones. Nobody has remembered the South East in terms of infrastructure, but Tinubu has done that, and we must reciprocate by voting for him massively in the region. I will not regret what I’m saying today because I am speaking the truth,” Umahi stated.
