Trump to Attend 2026 FIFA World Cup Final
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced that former U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the showpiece match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will join him on the podium to hand the trophy to the winning team.
The final is slated for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Infantino said both leaders will watch the match together before taking part in the trophy‑presentation ceremony.
Infantino Highlights Trump’s Role in the Tournament
Speaking on Fox & Friends, Infantino praised his close working relationship with Trump and credited the American president for playing a significant part in securing the United States as a host nation for the expanded tournament.
“We will be together with the president [Trump] enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together,” Infantino told the programme. He added that the two are “together all the time.”
Infantino noted that Trump’s direct involvement and support were instrumental in shaping FIFA’s plans for the 2026 World Cup, describing the cooperation between football’s governing body and the U.S. administration as crucial throughout his current term as FIFA president.
Precedent for Leaders in Trophy Ceremonies
The decision for Trump and Infantino to jointly present the trophy follows a similar moment less than a year ago at the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, where Trump joined the ceremony after Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint‑German and handed the silverware to captain Reece James.
While the FIFA president usually presents the World Cup trophy alone, history shows that heads of state have occasionally taken part in the ceremony, with several political leaders having done so in previous tournaments.
