Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Favour Ashe Lead AFN’s 29‑Athlete Commonwealth Games Camp
Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games have gained momentum after the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) invited 29 athletes to a national training camp.
Heading the list are world‑record holder Tobi Amusan, long‑jump star Ese Brume and sprinter Favour Ashe, all expected to be pivotal in Nigeria’s medal quest in Glasgow.
The roster was shared via the Making of Champions X handle and features a mix of seasoned internationals and promising newcomers.
Other notable names include shot‑put specialist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi, quarter‑miler Patience Okon‑George, middle‑distance runner Esther Joseph, rising sprint talent Ella Onojuvwevwo and hurdles standout Ezekiel Nathaniel.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 23 July to 2 August, marking Scotland’s fourth time hosting the event after Edinburgh (1970, 1986) and Glasgow (2014).
This edition offers Nigeria a chance to build on its historic showing at the 2022 Birmingham Games, where the team finished seventh overall with 35 medals – 12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze.
A highlight of that campaign was the dominance of Nigerian women, who captured every one of the 12 gold medals won by the country.
