The Presidency has dismissed allegations made by Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi that he is being singled out by the Federal Government.
Presidency Labels Claims as False and Misleading
In a statement released on Wednesday night, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, described Obi’s assertions as false, misleading and aimed at garnering public sympathy.
Onanuga said the recent allegation that Obi was targeted after an incident involving his vehicle at the airport was baseless, noting that the situation stemmed from a parking‑regulation breach rather than any government action.
The Presidency accused Obi of dragging the administration into personal inconveniences and making unfounded accusations.
It also rejected Obi’s suggestion that he might not survive until the January 2027 election and that individuals were being pressured not to invite him to social gatherings.
According to the statement, the claims were fabricated to divert attention from challenges facing Obi’s political platform, the NDC.
The Presidency further dismissed notions that the government was targeting Fidelity Bank due to Obi’s alleged interest in the institution, stating that the bank is benefitting from Tinubu’s economic reforms and is not under any attack.
Onanuga reiterated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains focused on consolidating its reforms for the benefit of all Nigerians and has no intention of being distracted by being distracted by Obi’s allegations or political activities.
