PDP Responds to Akpabio’s “Dead Party” Remark
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected statements made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio suggesting that the party is no longer viable.
Akpabio made the comments during the inauguration of a road project in the Gaduwa district of Abuja, where he questioned the continued existence of the PDP and urged its supporters to let it fade away.
In a formal reaction, PDP National Publicity Secretary Mohammed Jungudo labelled the remarks as wishful thinking, pointing to the party’s recent successes.
He highlighted electoral victories in Adamawa State local government polls and a Senate by‑ election in Rivers State, as well as the decision of prominent figures such as Iyabo Obasanjo and Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami to align with the PDP.
Jungudo added that the steady flow of politicians from states like Katsina, Jigawa, Imo, Oyo and others demonstrates the party’s expanding national reach.
The PDP spokesman emphasized that the party’s track record of producing capable leaders now serving in government contradicts any claim of decline.
He noted the irony that the road project Akpabio was commissioning had been planned and executed by a PDP member who currently serves in the APC‑led administration.
Jungudo concluded by expressing confidence that Nigerians will again entrust the PDP with leadership when the opportunity arises, describing the party as a “beautiful bride on hot demand” ready for future electoral success.
