PDP Denies Blocking Presidential Aspirants, Says Nomination Forms Remain Available
The Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected allegations that it prevented presidential aspirants from obtaining nomination forms ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.
The faction’s spokesman, Ini Ememobong, said in a statement on Thursday that the claims were misleading and baseless.
He emphasized that the party had not issued any directive to officials to obstruct aspirants from taking part in the process.
According to him, the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) is unaware of any action by party officials aimed at stopping interested contenders from purchasing the nomination forms.
Ememobong explained that the party recently reviewed and extended its timetable after members appealed for additional time to complete the process.
He noted that, under the revised schedule, the deadline for purchasing and submitting completed nomination forms is Friday, May 22, 2026, while a special screening exercise for aspirants who have not yet been screened will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The faction also clarified that, although the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, it cannot constitutionally bar any Nigerian from seeking elective office.
It therefore urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that aspirants were being denied access to nomination forms.
The PDP faction maintained that nomination forms remain available within the timeframe set out in the amended timetable and reaffirmed that all Nigerians genuinely interested in contesting on the party’s platform are free to obtain, complete, and return the forms.
