Alleged Arrest and Extortion Incident Involving a Nigerian Woman

A Nigerian woman has generated widespread discussion after recounting her alleged encounter with law enforcement, claiming she and a coworker were detained while heading home from their jobs.
She stated that the incident unfolded around 8 a.m., when officers reportedly swept through the neighbourhood, confiscated their mobile devices, and transported them—along with several others—to a police station, even though no contraband was discovered on them.
Narrating the ordeal, she said:
“Nigeria happened to me yesterday after I was going home from work. When I asked why they arrested me, they slapped me.”
She alleged that following her detention, she was confined in a cell with other male inmates and was told she needed to hand over a substantial sum of money before she and her coworker could be released.
After pleading for a reduced payment, she said they were compelled to sign a declaration denying any extortion, only then being allowed to leave.
“They told me to bring ₦200,000. I had to beg for ₦100,000 for me and my colleague. I’m traumatized,” she added.
Her account has fueled ongoing online debates concerning purported police misconduct, illegal detention, and extortion practices nationwide.
