A young Nigerian military officer has ignited online discussion after revealing the difficulties troops face today, confessing he has thought about quitting the service.
In a widely circulated clip on X (formerly Twitter), the serviceman described the severe strain he and his fellow soldiers allegedly endure, stating the circumstances have become intolerable.
He said, “The way I see it, the only option left is to abandon this post, return to my village, and perhaps take up a trade like tailoring, plumbing, or mechanics.”
He emphasized that civilians often fail to grasp the daily realities of military life, noting that conditions for service members have grown markedly harder.
He urged Nigerians to extend compassion when they meet soldiers in need, asserting that many are privately grappling with serious hardships.
“If a service member asks you for assistance during this time, please help them. It’s not simple for them right now; they are enduring a great deal.”
The footage elicited varied responses online; while some citizens expressed sympathy for the soldier, others doubted the adequacy of welfare and support provided to military personnel.
Numerous social media commentators called on government officials to enhance the living standards of security forces who put their lives on the line for the nation.
