A Nigerian woman has sparked online debate after criticizing men who claim they would never marry single mothers in Nigeria, yet they end up marrying single mothers after moving abroad.
She explained that many Nigerian men openly turn down single mothers domestically, but they have no hesitation marrying women abroad who already have kids.
In a widely shared video on X (formerly Twitter), she stated:
“Nigerian men claim they won’t marry a single mother, but once they are overseas and hear the term ‘single mother,’ they pursue her.”
She pointed out that many of these same men proudly display their foreign wives on social media with affectionate captions, even though those women have children from previous relationships.
The woman questioned why Nigerian single mothers face harsher judgment, noting that many of them left unhealthy relationships.
“Most of you are marrying single mothers in the UK—some even with three kids—and you post them with loving captions saying, ‘I love you.’ What have Nigerian single mothers done to you? Nothing. They simply couldn’t tolerate your behavior,” she added.
She recalled seeing a Nigerian man praise his wife online, only to discover after checking the woman’s profile that she was a single mother of two.
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online; some agree there is a double standard, while others argue that marriage choices are personal preferences, not tied to nationality.
