A Nigerian individual has disclosed the reason behind borrowing ₦5,000 from a former coworker, noting that the incident quickly generated discussion online. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), user @TheMrBachelor explained that the funds were needed for his child’s pressing medical treatment.
Former Colleague’s Urgent ₦5,000 Loan

Because the child’s medication was time-sensitive, he transferred the amount and assured the colleague that repayment was unnecessary. Initially, the colleague promised to return the money on payday but failed to do so. After sending a text with no reply and attempting a phone call, he noticed the ex‑colleague’s WhatsApp status displaying a brand‑new customized phone case. This prompted him to request a refund via text, and the response arrived within two minutes: “Ah, chief, so because of mere ₦5,000 you keep calling and blocking my line? I had no idea you were this desperate. Share your account details, I’ll send the money so I can relax,” he recalled.
