Labour Party Ratifies 1,211 Candidates for 2027 Elections
The Labour Party, under the leadership of Nenadi Usman, has ratified 1,211 candidates to contest various elective positions in the 2027 elections.
The decision was announced at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
The party also selected Chibuzo Okereke as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his deputy Ikechukwu Emetu, urged all candidates to embrace unity and work together for the party’s success.
“Elections within the party should never create permanent divisions. The contest is over; the assignment has just begun,” Otti said.
He warned that opponents would seek to exploit any internal divisions and stressed the need for the party to move forward as a united front.
“We must bring everyone to the table and harness the strength, experience, and networks of all those who participated,” he added.
Nenadi Usman, the LP National Chairman, charged members to set aside any grievances that arose from the primary elections.
She emphasized reconciliation and the importance of remaining united to win elections.
“We had a successful primary election across the nation. Today we are meeting not just to thank God but to adopt and ratify what we have accomplished,” she said.
Usman pleaded for members to sheath their swords, work together for the party’s development, and reminded everyone that the party belongs to all its members.
“The more members we have, the stronger our party becomes, because the purpose of a political party is to win elections,” she concluded.
