Kwankwasiyya Dismisses VP Shettima’s Re‑nomination for 2027
The National Spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, has rejected the decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election. Speaking to Daily Post, Mohammed argued that the move does not give the All Progressives Congress (APC) any electoral advantage.
Seyi Tinubu Seen as More Influential Than Shettima
Mohammed contended that Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, wields more influence within the current government than the Vice President. He stated that, ordinarily, one would expect the president to choose a running mate who could bring additional votes, but the APC’s choice appears to be a matter of convenience rather than strategy.
Northern Voters Re‑evaluate Muslim‑Muslim Ticket
He noted that Nigerians, especially those in the North, have already assessed the Muslim‑Muslim ticket based on the experience of the present administration. While many initially defended the arrangement, they have now seen its outcomes and are forming their own judgments.
Administration’s Impact on North Questioned
Mohammed claimed that keeping Shettima on the ticket is more about presidential convenience than electoral gain. He added that the decision will not strengthen the APC’s chances at the polls, insisting that a different approach is needed for national progress and development.
He also argued that religion will no longer be a decisive factor for many voters. The Muslim‑Muslim ticket, he said, had misled northern supporters in the last election, leading to disappointment. Voters now prioritise competence, sincerity, and the ability to solve problems over religious considerations.
Questioning Shettima’s actual contribution, Mohammed observed that many Nigerians cannot point to any significant impact made by the Vice President. He suggested that Shettima’s role has largely been limited to representing the government at public events, with little substantive involvement in policy or governance.
Regarding the North, Mohammed highlighted that insecurity persists, poverty levels remain unchanged, and the administration has not demonstrated tangible improvements in the region, including the Vice President’s home state. He concluded that the electorate remains dissatisfied with the government’s performance in addressing these challenges.
