Funke Akindele Opens Up About the Extreme Sacrifices Behind Her ₦2.7 Billion Box‑Office Hit
Funke Akindele, the acclaimed Nollywood actress and filmmaker, has disclosed the personal sacrifices she endured while producing her latest blockbuster, Behind The Scenes.
She revealed that she completely set aside her personal life — skipping hair appointments, avoiding social gatherings, and refraining from visiting friends and family — to stay fully focused on the project.
The film, which has now grossed an impressive ₦2.7 billion, demanded her undivided attention, leaving her neck‑deep in work for months.
Akindele emphasized that the success came from relentless effort, sleepless nights, missed meals, and giving everything she had to the production.
In her own words, “What I do differently to achieve this level of success is lots of work. When I say ‘a lot of work,’ it means giving your all. I abandoned myself for work; I didn’t even make my hair, except when I am going on the red carpet or somewhere important. I don’t attend parties, I don’t go to greet people at home, I quit everything. I’m neck‑deep in work; I sacrifice my time for it. It’s now that I am relaxed, feeling fresh, doing the skincare. It was a lot of sacrifice, sleepless nights, forgetting to eat, giving my all.”
She also shared on Instagram that her achievement did not happen overnight; it was the result of continuous learning, prayer, and repeatedly re‑strategising, re‑evaluating, and re‑executing her approach.
