Arsenal to Begin Title Defence Against Coventry in 2026/27 Opener

Defending champions Arsenal will open the 2026/27 Premier League season at home to newly promoted Coventry City after the league unveiled the full fixture list on June 19. The match is set for Friday, August 21 at the Emirates Stadium, marking Mikel Arteta’s side’s first defence of the title they clinched last season, their first Premier League crown since 2004.

Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, return to the top flight after a 25‑year absence following their Championship triumph. Other promoted sides Hull City and Ipswich Town also feature in the opening weekend, with Hull hosting Manchester United on August 22 and Ipswich welcoming Sunderland to Portman Road the same day.

Manchester City commence their post‑Guardiola era at home against Bournemouth on August 23, while Liverpool, under new boss Andoni Iraola, travel to Newcastle United on the same date. Chelsea begin under Xabi Alonso with a London derby away to Fulham on August 24.

Tottenham face a tough finish, facing Arsenal on May 1, Chelsea on May 8, Manchester United on May 23 and finishing away at Aston Villa on May 30.

The Premier League confirmed a minimum 60‑hour break between fixtures over the Christmas and New Year period, retaining a full Boxing Day schedule. Fixture changes are expected as nine clubs compete in UEFA competitions.

The season starts a week later than the previous campaign to allow extra recovery time after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, concluding on May 30, 2027 with all final‑day matches kicking off simultaneously at 4 pm.
