Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has publicly criticized Pastor Femi Lazarus of Abuja’s Light Nation Church over his controversial statements about women’s menstrual cycles.
In a viral video clip, Pastor Lazarus suggested women’s mood swings during menstruation resulted from attitude rather than biological factors. His remarks ignited widespread social media backlash across Nigeria.
The clergyman asserted: “You aren’t the first woman to menstruate, so your period isn’t the issue. The Bible never mentions women complaining about menstrual pain. You’re simply not peaceful.”
Responding via Instagram, Jegede condemned the comments. She urged men to avoid making definitive claims about experiences they haven’t personally endured.
She wrote: “If you’ve never experienced women’s hormonal changes during periods, ovulation or pregnancy, refrain from bold statements. Men should show more kindness.”
While many supported Jegede’s stance, some defended Pastor Lazarus. Instagram user Angie Joseph countered: “He wasn’t trivializing pain. As someone hospitalized by cramps, I know pain doesn’t excuse bad manners.”
The incident highlights ongoing debates about women’s health awareness and appropriate commentary from religious leaders in Nigeria.
