Aisha Yesufu Urges Supporters to Focus Solely on Electing Peter Obi in 2027
Activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has called on her supporters to concentrate all efforts on securing the presidency for Peter Obi in the 2027 election.
Yesufu’s Message to Supporters
In a direct appeal, Yesufu wrote: “My dear supporters, remember, we have moved on and focused on the bigger picture. Any conversation that is not about the 2027 presidential election and how to get Peter Obi @PeterObi elected and sworn into office, please ignore. After the 2027 General Elections we will have the luxury to respond if it is worth our time. For now we will continue with our tunnel vision on the presidential election.”
NDC Secretary Reveals Internal Party Details
Meanwhile, National Secretary of the NDC, Ikenna Enekweizu, disclosed fresh information about the party’s internal crisis surrounding legislative tickets. Speaking on Channels Television, he explained that Peter Obi personally advised him to support Aisha Yesufu for the House of Representatives seat covering AMAC/Bwari during the pre‑election consultations.
According to Enekweizu, the recommendation was part of the leadership’s effort to harmonise candidate selections before final submission. Despite the party’s suggestion, Yesufu opted to pursue a senatorial ticket instead of the House of Representatives slot.
He quoted Obi saying, “Peter Obi told me personally that he wanted Aisha Yesufu to run for the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwari. But she chose Senate instead.”
Enekweizu noted that political parties often guide aspirants on which offices to contest to maintain balance and improve electoral chances. While individuals remain free to decide, the leadership strives to align personal ambitions with the party’s broader strategy.
Addressing disappointed aspirants who did not secure tickets, he acknowledged that frustration is common in political contests and confirmed that the NDC has mechanisms to handle complaints and resolve disputes among members. He added that the party leadership remains committed to preserving unity despite differences that may arise during the selection process.
Officials are working to ensure that any disagreements do not hinder preparations for future elections, Enekweizu concluded.
