Peter Obi Clarifies His Presidential Ambition
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, stated that his drive for office is not born out of desperation to sit in Nigeria’s highest seat, but from a genuine wish to see the nation work for its people.
The former Labour Party presidential hopeful emphasized that he is more interested in tackling Nigeria’s problems than pursuing power for personal gain.
A Vision Centered on Citizens’ Welfare
Obi explained that his priority is to build a country where citizens, especially the youth, can lead productive lives.
“I am not desperate to be president of Nigeria. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he declared.
He lamented the widespread hardship, noting that millions of young Nigerians struggle to find sustainable livelihoods.
“I am desperate to see young people earn a living. I am desperate to see an end to the theft of public funds. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he added.
Addressing Brain Drain and Resource Potential
The ex‑Anambra governor voiced concern over the growing exodus of Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad, despite the country’s abundant human and natural resources.
“Today, Nigerians are fleeing to Niger, Ghana and elsewhere because opportunities are missing at home, even though God has blessed Nigeria with everything,” he said.
Unity, Inclusion and Poverty Reduction as Cornerstones
Outlining his transformation agenda, Obi said national unity would be the first step toward a prosperous Nigeria.
“I will start by uniting this country, making it a nation everybody can be proud of,” he affirmed.
He added that social inclusion and poverty reduction would rank among his top priorities.
Investing in Education and Human Capital
Obi insisted that Nigeria’s challenges are surmountable through deliberate investment in key sectors, especially education.
“We will invest in critical areas such as education. These are not rocket‑science solutions; many countries have succeeded with similar approaches,” he noted.
He maintained that with sound leadership, prudent management of resources, and investment in human capital, Nigeria can unlock its potential and create opportunities for all citizens.
