Peter Obi Pledges Inclusive Dialogue with Agitators
Presidential hopeful Peter Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that, should he win the presidency, he will engage directly with various agitators across the country, including Yoruba nation activist Sunday Igboho, controversial Islamic scholar Ahmad Gumi, and Biafra separatists.
A Blame‑Free Approach to National Issues
Obi emphasized that his goal is not to assign fault but to foster constructive conversations. He said:
“When I’m elected, I will discuss with everybody. I’m not there to apportion blame on who is wrong or right.”
He added that solving Nigeria’s challenges requires sitting down with all stakeholders and charting a common path forward.
Confidence That Agitators Will Listen
When questioned about the possibility of Gumi and others refusing to engage, Obi responded with a metaphor:
“They will listen to me; they are in the problem. How can you call someone who is sick to come to the hospital and he says he won’t come?”
He pointed out that, as a former governor, he successfully brought together traditional rulers and other leaders to discuss state matters, demonstrating his track record in dialogue.
Motivation Beyond Personal Ambition
Obi clarified that his presidential bid is not driven by a desperate grasp for power. Instead, his ambition stems from a genuine desire to see Nigeria function effectively for its citizens, particularly the youth.
He stressed that his focus lies in building a nation where young people can lead productive lives, rather than pursuing office for personal gain.
