Kano NDC Governorship Candidate Aminu Gwarzo Names Mustapha Kwankwaso as 2027 Running Mate
The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has appointed Mustapha Kwankwaso as his running mate for the forthcoming 2027 governorship election.
According to Gwarzo, the selection was made to strengthen the party’s electoral chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described Mustapha Kwankwaso as a loyal and committed party member whose nomination would help consolidate NDC support across Kano State.
“The governorship candidate of our great party, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State,” he said.
He added that the decision reflects the party’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness and effective representation.
Mustapha Kwankwaso is the son of former Kano State governor and National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
His emergence is expected to further strengthen the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement within the NDC as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
The development also comes amid ongoing efforts by the party to consolidate its structures and expand its support base in Kano, one of Nigeria’s key political battlegrounds.
Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, emerged as the NDC governorship candidate after consultations among party stakeholders.
