A 34‑year‑old South African woman, Vhahangwele Rashaka, has ignited online discussion after electing to have her fallopian tubes removed so she can live without children.
She revealed that she will soon mark one year since undergoing the life‑changing surgery.
The medical officer made the disclosure in a Facebook post on Saturday, June 13, where she reflected on her lifestyle choice and expressed satisfaction with her decision.
I Want a Child‑Free Life
Rashaka, who said she does not wish to have children, explained that she feels fulfilled and in charge of her own decisions.
She wrote: “I will be celebrating one year after my fallopian tubes were surgically removed (salpingectomy). I am living my wildest dreams, the life I imagined as an 18‑year‑old.”
Personal Reflection
She described herself as living life on her own terms, free from societal, cultural, or external pressures.
“I am certainly my ancestors’ wildest dreams, a woman with choices who can decide for herself, not compelled by tradition, culture, or pressure but empowered to choose,” she noted.
Rashaka added that her choice reflects her personal happiness, even though it is not broadly accepted by society.
“This matters because I chose what is often criticized. I chose myself and only myself. Becoming selfish for my happiness is a significant achievement,” she said.
