Oshiomhole Says Tinubu Had No Role in Buhari’s Government
Adams Oshiomhole, the senator representing Edo North, stated that President Bola Tinubu never had the chance to appoint any of his allies to the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on the differences between the two leaders, Oshiomhole noted that Tinubu and Buhari approach policymaking in distinct ways.
He added that, despite those differences, Tinubu cannot openly criticise Buhari because he played a pivotal role in helping Buhari secure the presidency.
Recalling his remarks during Tinubu’s 2022 presidential campaign, Oshiomhole said he had warned that the former Lagos State governor would not rely on Buhari’s record to win votes.
“I said during Tinubu’s campaign that Asiwaju would not run on the record of Buhari,” Oshiomhole quoted himself. “Even though Buhari was still in office, I insisted Tinubu would run on his own merit and track record, not on Buhari’s, because Tinubu was not part of Buhari’s government.”
He concluded: “Tinubu did not even have the opportunity to nominate anyone into Buhari’s government. President Tinubu possesses a sophisticated mind; he must speak as a statesman and cannot disown his predecessor, but I am free to do so.”
