Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North in the National Assembly, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu chose to relocate from Nigeria during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. According to Oshiomhole, the move was motivated by a desire to avoid humiliation stemming from specific policies, appointments, and decisions taken by Buhari’s government.
Tinubu’s Stance Amidst Buhari’s Administration
Oshiomhole emphasised that, despite being sidelined by the Buhari administration, Tinubu remained a loyal supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stood by the former president. He quoted Tinubu’s reported remark that the former president “stood with Buhari even when he was ignored,” highlighting the former Lagos governor’s commitment to the party even when his influence was limited.
Criticism of Senate President Godswill Akpabio
The former Edo State governor also turned his attention to the current Senate leadership, claiming that many senators in the 10th National Assembly are dissatisfied with the manner in which Senate President Godswill Akpabio conducts affairs. Oshiomhole described Akpabio as “paranoid about everything” and suggested that, if he had the power, Akpabio would seek to exclude him from the Senate chamber.
Broader Discontent and Outlook for the 11th National Assembly
Oshiomhole cautioned that the unease is not confined to him alone; several other lawmakers share similar concerns about Akpabio’s leadership style. He warned that the Senate President should prepare for a markedly different legislative environment after the 2027 elections, when the 11th National Assembly is inaugurated.
