Daddy Freeze Walks Out of Alex Ekubo’s Service of Songs Over Mercy Chinwo’s Upbeat Performance
Media personality Daddy Freeze said he walked out of the service of songs for late actor Alex Ekubo after gospel singer Mercy Chinwo took the pulpit and delivered an upbeat performance.
During an Instagram Live session, Freeze argued that Chinwo’s choice of lively songs turned what should have been a solemn, reflective ceremony into a high‑energy concert.
He noted that a funeral or memorial service calls for soft, comforting music — preferably hymns — rather than a vibrant musical showcase.
Freeze also questioned the presence of multiple guest artists leading worship, insisting that traditional memorial services should rely mainly on hymns to keep the atmosphere respectful and serene.
He added, “Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place into a concert; at that point I got up and left. If they had sung hymns, I would have been more moved.”
