NDC Announces Nomination Fee Policy for Primary Winners
National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, stated that only aspirants who win the party’s primaries will be required to pay nomination fees and complete their documentation.
Details of the Decision
Dickson disclosed the decision in a statement posted on his 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, following a joint meeting of key party organs.
The meeting included the NDC National Chairman Cleopas Moses, presidential aspirant Peter Obi, members of the National Working Committee, and the selection and screening committees.
Participation and Process
All aspirants who purchased Expression of Interest forms will be allowed to contest in the primaries in their respective constituencies. Only those who emerge victorious will later report to the party secretariat for documentation and payment of nomination forms.
Organisation of the Primaries
The parties have deployed senior officials to every state to conduct the primaries, working with stakeholders and local leaders to ensure a smooth exercise.
Appeal Panel and Conduct Guidelines
An appeal panel has been inaugurated to consider any complaints arising from the primaries. Dickson urged officials to act openly, fairly, and in the interest of the party, reminding them that the NDC is a platform for all members, especially women and youth.
The primaries are scheduled for May 28 and 29. Direct primaries for State House of Assembly seats will be held at the constituency level, while House of Representatives, Senate, governorship and presidential affirmations will take place at local government headquarters.
Future Outlook
Although the NDC had hoped to run the primaries electronically, time constraints prevented full implementation. Dickson noted that this will be the last manual primary election, with plans to adopt electronic voting in future contests.
