Dele Momodu Comments on Possible Jonathan Comeback
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has stated that a possible return of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the presidential race would make the 2027 election more interesting.
Speaking on Arise TV, Momodu noted that Jonathan, as a former head of state, still possesses a strong political network and should not be dismissed. He added that the veteran journalist admires Jonathan’s courage to consider a comeback after leaving office in 2015.
“A former President of Nigeria must have his network; it makes the race more exciting for me,” Momodu said. “I salute his courage, because it takes courage to come back to say you want to be the President of Nigeria after you’ve left since 2015. That’s some 11 years ago.”
Momodu also affirmed the ADC’s readiness to welcome Jonathan, saying the party is prepared to meet him on election day.
Strong Backing for Atiku Abubakar
In the same interview, Momodu restated his support for former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a resilient and experienced politician who has been a unifying presence in national politics.
“Atiku has been a man of destiny from the beginning. He is still standing. It tells you that he has the hand of God in his life,” Momodu remarked. “I have no doubt in my mind that if he is destined to be the next president of Nigeria, Nigerians are going to see the goodness in this good man and they are going to support him.”
He pledged wholehearted support for Atiku, calling him a bridge builder that Nigeria needs at this time. Momodu also praised Atiku as a model of tenacity and democratic values, stating that the country needs his example of doing the right things in democracy.
“We need him as an example of tenacity. We need him as an example of a man who knows that democracy is not a fight; it is about doing the right things,” Momodu concluded. “And I salute him. He’s my role model.”
