Peter Obi Quit ADC Knowing He Couldn’t Defeat Atiku, Says Dele Momodu
Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi departed the ADC quietly because he recognised he had virtually no chance of defeating former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar in the party’s presidential primary.
Speaking on Arise TV, Momodu explained that Obi carefully considered Atiku’s extensive nationwide network and political influence before deciding to step aside.
He emphasised that Obi did not deceive himself about his prospects, describing Atiku as his former political ally and labelling the decision to withdraw as the honourable course of action.
Momodu also rejected claims of irregularities raised by Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu‑Deen, insisting the ADC presidential primary was carried out properly and monitored peacefully across the country.
He said he personally observed the voting in many states, shared video footage online, and affirmed that the process was transparent, orderly, and free of intimidation.
The ADC chieftain further criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for publishing what he called unrealistic voter figures, arguing that reporting nearly 11 million votes in a single day was implausible and amounted to blatant exaggeration.
