Human rights advocate Mahdi Shehu has issued a stark warning that Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could suffer the same fate as the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP previously dominated Nigerian politics for 16 consecutive years before losing power.
In a Monday statement via his verified X platform account, Shehu highlighted troubling parallels. He compared the PDP’s past displays of arrogance during governance to what he termed the APC’s growing disregard for institutions and citizens. The activist specifically referenced former PDP chairman Vincent Ogbulafor’s 2008 declaration that his party would rule Nigeria for sixty years.
“Divine intervention humiliated and disgraced Ogbulafor’s PDP out of power,” Shehu stated. “Today, the PDP stands publicly disgraced, preparing for burial without priests to officiate.”
Shehu cautioned that the APC now mirrors these errors through institutional destruction, economic sabotage, and social cohesion breakdown. He accused the ruling party of taking its position for granted while systematically intimidating critics.
“APC’s intimidation tactics against individuals signal its impending downfall,” Shehu declared. “Harassment and blackmail accelerate this destructive path.”
Biblical Warnings Against Arrogance
The activist reinforced his political analysis with scriptural references condemning arrogance. Quoting Psalm 37:10, he reminded readers: “A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.”
Shehu further cited 1 Samuel 2:3: “Boast no more so very proudly, do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighed.” Additional references included Psalm 31:18 and Isaiah 13:11, underscoring divine judgment against oppressive leaders.
In his concluding remarks, Shehu delivered a stark prophecy: “Like the PDP, the APC appears destined to collide with divine justice. They’re crashing all before them while gate-crashing into destruction’s ocean. Remember – whatever rises inevitably falls.”
