Amaechi Plans to Contest ADC Primary Result
Former Minister of Transportation and ex‑Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi is said to be preparing to reject the result of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election.
Party insiders who spoke with Sahara Reporters claim Amaechi, who was a contestant in the primary, expressed dissatisfaction with how the exercise was conducted and believes the outcome does not reflect the true will of the delegates.
According to the sources, Amaechi has started consulting his legal team about possible court action to overturn the result.
An insider told SaharaReporters, “Atiku is expected to be declared the winner of the ADC primary, and Amaechi is set to reject the outcome. He is also weighing legal steps over the matter.”
Should Amaechi proceed to court, the move could widen existing rifts within the ADC following the conclusion of its presidential primary.
The primary featured three main contenders: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman Mohammed Hayatu‑Deen.
Earlier, Hayatu‑Deen had already denounced the process, alleging widespread vote rigging and irregularities across the nation, and said he would not attend the official announcement of results.
In a post on his 𝕏 account on Tuesday, Hayatu‑Deen wrote, “I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be seeking advice on my next steps.”
