Italian football giants Juventus have terminated head coach Igor Tudor after a disastrous winless streak spanning eight consecutive matches. The club announced the decision on Monday following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Lazio.
Reserve team coach Massimiliano Brambilla will take temporary charge of the first team. He’ll lead Juventus in their upcoming Serie A clash against Udinese on Wednesday.
In an official statement, Juventus confirmed: “Igor Tudor is no longer the head coach of the first team.” The club also dismissed Tudor’s entire coaching staff but thanked them for their professionalism and dedication.
Tudor’s departure comes amid Juventus’ worst run of form in years. The team has failed to win any of their last eight fixtures across all competitions. This includes three consecutive defeats that have left Juventus languishing in eighth place in Serie A.
The Croatian manager took charge in March after replacing Thiago Motta. During his 24-game tenure, Tudor recorded 10 wins, eight draws, and six losses. His final victory came against Inter Milan on September 13.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Luciano Spalletti has emerged as the leading candidate for the permanent position. Spalletti guided Napoli to the Serie A title in 2023. Other potential replacements include Roberto Mancini and former Juventus manager Thiago Motta.
Brambilla will make his debut as interim manager when Juventus host Udinese at the Allianz Stadium midweek. Fans hope this coaching change will reverse the team’s declining fortunes.
