Lamido Enters PDP Leadership Race
Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has declared his candidacy for National Chairman of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The veteran politician confirmed plans to obtain his nomination form at PDP headquarters.
Lamido, a PDP founding member and former Foreign Affairs Minister, emphasized unwavering dedication to rebuilding the party. He stated his determination is unstoppable regarding restoring PDP’s former prominence in Nigerian politics.
“By God’s grace, I’ll be at Wadata Plaza to purchase my nomination form today,” Lamido announced. “My commitment to democracy and goal of restoring our party’s glory cannot be stopped!”
The former governor explained his decision stems from preparing PDP for future electoral contests. He believes strong leadership is crucial for the party’s revival.
PDP Leadership Transition
The PDP, which governed Nigeria from 1999 to 2015, will select new leadership during its upcoming national convention. Lamido’s entry adds significant weight to the chairmanship race given his political experience.
His declaration underscores the party’s ongoing efforts to reorganize and strengthen its position as Nigeria’s primary opposition force ahead of future elections.
