The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi. This follows his controversial statement describing internet fraudsters as “geniuses” needing redirection.
APC spokesman Seye Oladejo issued a statement on Sunday condemning the remarks. He labeled Obi’s comments as “morally reprehensible” and unacceptable from a public figure.
“Cybercrime is a social tragedy, not talent,” Oladejo stated firmly. He expressed concern about Obi’s moral judgment. The APC questioned how someone condemning corruption could simultaneously glorify illegal online activities.
The party accused Obi of seeking political relevance through controversy. They characterized his position as reckless attention-seeking behavior. “This desperation has replaced reasoned leadership with dangerous rhetoric,” Oladejo added.
Oladejo further alleged Obi misled Nigerian youth during the 2023 elections. He cited “propaganda and emotional manipulation” tactics. The APC spokesman demanded an apology for the recent comments.
He warned that such rhetoric could encourage moral indiscipline among young people. The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to genuine youth empowerment. They completely rejected any romanticization of cybercrime.
“True leadership requires integrity and moral responsibility,” Oladejo concluded. The party emphasized that cybercrime must never be justified under any circumstances.
