The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the winner of its governorship primary election in Ogun State. The senator, who represents the Ogun West Senatorial District, secured a landslide victory in the contest.
Primary Results Announced
Wale Ohu, Chairman of the Ogun State Governorship Electoral Committee, announced the result after collation of votes from the primary. According to Ohu, a total of 305,287 accredited voters participated in the exercise, with Adeola polling an overwhelming 304,055 votes. His only challenger, Abayomi Samako Hunye, recorded no votes.
The electoral committee chairman thereafter declared Adeola the duly elected APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State. He added that the result would be forwarded to the party’s National Working Committee for ratification.
Adeola Thanks President Tinubu and Party Leaders
Addressing party members and supporters after the announcement, Adeola expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his mentorship and support over the years. The senator said Tinubu played a major role in his political journey, which began at the Lagos State House of Assembly before he moved to the House of Representatives and later to the Senate, where he is currently serving a third term.
Adeola stated that the President had stood by him throughout his 24-year political career. He also thanked a former Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, and the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, for their support in ensuring his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.
The senator further commended APC leaders, delegates, stakeholders and members in Ogun State for what he described as their commitment to peace, unity and internal democracy. He promised not to take the confidence reposed in him by the party and its members for granted.
Commitment to Consolidating Abiodun’s Achievements
Adeola described his candidacy as a call to service and an opportunity to consolidate on the achievements of the current APC administration in the state. “Our goal is to build on the remarkable achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun and move Ogun State to a higher level of inclusive growth, infrastructure development, economic prosperity and people-oriented governance,” he said.
He said his administration, if elected in 2027, would focus on policies that would deepen development and improve the welfare of residents across the state.
Governor Abiodun Hails Peaceful Primary
Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the APC primaries in Ogun State. He said the party had demonstrated discipline and maturity by reaching consensus in most of the contests. Abiodun commended members who, according to him, placed the interest of the party above personal ambitions.
“We must thank God for the peaceful way we have conducted our affairs so far. Other states are struggling to achieve what we accomplished seamlessly. I want to thank every party member who allowed the overall interest of the party to prevail over personal interests. Without their sacrifices, we would not be celebrating this success today.”

Party leaders and supporters at the venue hailed the outcome of the exercise, describing it as a major step toward retaining power in Ogun State in 2027. The APC said the peaceful conduct of the primary reflected the unity of the party and the willingness of stakeholders to work together ahead of the general election.
With this victory, Senator Solomon Adeola is now positioned as the APC flagbearer in Ogun State for the 2027 governorship election.
