Mukhtar Shagari, a former deputy governor of Sokoto State, confirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision. He stated Fubara voluntarily withdrew from the 2027 political process.
Shagari made this known on Thursday. He spoke during an interview on Arise TV. He described Governor Fubara as a mature and educated leader. Fubara possesses the right to choose his participation in future elections.
Fubara’s decision followed extensive consultations, Shagari explained. It should be respected as a personal political choice.
“He confirmed the decision came after consultations,” Shagari quoted. “Fubara remains committed to his political affiliation. He has not suggested any force or influence on his choice.”
The Rivers governor did not indicate external influence on his decision. No individual or group swayed him.
Shagari stressed Fubara’s democratic right. Like all Nigerians, Fubara can participate in politics or abstain.
“Governor Fubara is a mature and well-educated leader,” Shagari stated. “He holds the right to engage in the democratic process or withdraw. This is true for every Nigerian. He chose not to partake in the 2027 political process. This decision deserves respect. It is ultimately a personal choice. We should treat it as such, avoiding undue speculation.”
