A coalition of community-based and civil society organizations has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027. The endorsement came from the Citizens Connect Conference held in Lagos. Groups highlighted the administration’s bold reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector as a major governance achievement.
In their communique, signatories including Comrade Halima Mohammed (Centre for Civic Inclusion), Barr. Chidi Obumneke (Young Reformers Network), and Dr. Tunde Alade (South-West Civic Forum) praised the President. They commended his efforts in implementing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Regulatory institutions now operate with greater transparency and efficiency.
The communique stated: “President Tinubu’s leadership has repositioned Nigeria’s oil regulatory environment. It now promotes efficiency, transparency, and investor confidence.” The groups particularly acknowledged Engr. Gbenga Komolafe’s transformative leadership at NUPRC. His reforms elevated Nigeria’s global energy standing.
Key initiatives included digitized licensing processes and stricter compliance measures. Anti-theft operations also contributed to higher production levels. These reforms boosted revenue generation and restored investor trust in the sector.
Aisha Ibrahim of Connected Citizens Movement noted: “Youths now see evidence-based policy results. The oil sector, once synonymous with corruption, now demonstrates accountability.” The administration’s focus on energy transition and local content development also received praise.
Operational Host Community Development Trusts transformed oil-bearing communities into active stakeholders. Government support for “Nigeria’s First Goods and Services” initiatives created opportunities for local entrepreneurs. This strengthened domestic manufacturing in the energy supply chain.
Comrade Sunday Edet of Coalition for Accountable Leadership stated: “This administration redefined extractive sector governance through decisive leadership. We’ve seen real progress in enforcement, revenue, and transparency.” The endorsement for 2027 reflects evidence-based confidence in these achievements.
The conference urged deeper collaboration with youth groups and local stakeholders. This would strengthen policy ownership across Nigeria’s energy value chain. Continuity in reforms remains essential to consolidate current gains.
