Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has courageously shared her personal battle with depression and suicidal thoughts. She revealed enduring this struggle for nearly three years while maintaining a public facade of normalcy.
The Hidden Struggle Behind the Smile
Olayode described feeling her “whole body shutting down” during her darkest moments. She explained how depression taught her that joy functions as powerful medicine. Despite gaining physical weight, she emphasized it paled compared to her emotional burden.
“If you’ve never experienced depression,” she noted, “you might underestimate its impact. Those who’ve never been suicidal may see it as selfish. But for sufferers, it feels like the only escape.”
The Path to Healing
The actress acknowledged therapy’s value but stressed divine intervention’s role in her recovery. “Sometimes you need to return to your Maker for the perfect fix – and it’s free,” Olayode shared. “Just be vulnerable and say ‘Fix me, Lord.'”
A Message of Hope to Others
Now fully healed, Olayode offered encouragement to fans battling depression. “Don’t listen to that dark voice. The sun will rise again. Give your thoughts to God – He’ll help you,” she promised.
Addressing those contemplating suicide, she urged: “Don’t do it! Your struggle is common to humanity. It’s happening because it can’t consume you. You possess strength to overcome.”
The actress shared her story after receiving countless messages from people facing similar challenges, hoping to inspire resilience.
