Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has delivered a sharp critique of Nigeria’s ruling party. He claims public displays of loyalty to President Bola Tinubu by All Progressives Congress (APC) members don’t reflect genuine grassroots support.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Abia South representative stated a harsh reality. Many politicians endorsing Tinubu would face immediate rejection in their home states if they attempted local campaigning.
Abaribe emphasized that true political strength comes from popular backing. This support exists outside formal political offices. He illustrated his point by recalling a conversation referencing former Anambra Governor Peter Obi.
“I asked one of them a question,” Abaribe recounted. “Peter Obi once asked: Will Abaribe go to Ariaria Market in Aba to campaign for Tinubu? He wouldn’t dare attempt it.”
The senator elaborated further on the volatile public sentiment. “Most Tinubu supporters cannot advocate for him in their communities. They’d risk being stoned for such attempts.”
Abaribe expressed strong confidence about upcoming electoral contests. He predicted Tinubu’s defeat in the 2027 general elections. The senator maintained the president lacked legitimacy from the 2023 polls.
“Tinubu will lose in 2027,” Abaribe declared. “He never genuinely won in 2023. We’ll confront him politically and demonstrate why his strategy will fail.”
