Popular Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, and his wife, Natasha Idibia, are reportedly embroiled in a legal dispute. They face potential eviction from their Abuja residence. The issue stems from alleged unpaid professional fees related to their tenancy.
This development contradicts earlier assertions by Natasha. She had previously claimed the house was a gift from her grandfather to the couple. This led many to believe they owned the property outright.
However, new information circulating suggests the Idibias do not own the property. Instead, they are renting the apartment. Documents reportedly from the court indicate the property belongs to a landlord who is seeking their removal.
The Legal Action Against 2Baba and Natasha
Reports confirm the landlord has approached the court. They seek approval to evict the famous couple from the property. This action is linked to alleged outstanding professional fees.
An excerpt from the purported court document details the situation. It states: “It is our brief that our client facilitated the process of you renting the 5 (Five) bedroom semi-detached duplex with a room boy’s quarters situate at No 27 Edwin Clerk Crescent Guzape, Abuja F.C.T.”
The document further explains the financial arrangement. The couple secured possession of the property for two years. They paid N40,000,000 (Forty million naira) upfront. An agreement stipulated another N40,000,000 (Forty million naira) was due by December 2025. This total amount represents the property’s rental value.
Alleged Unpaid Professional Fees and Dud Cheque
The core of the dispute revolves around N7,000,000 (Seven million naira). This amount is reportedly the professional fees owed to the client who facilitated the rental process. The document alleges the couple has refused to pay these fees.
“After several demands from our client, you went on to issue a dud cheque that was returned unpaid,” the document claims. It adds that the couple is “well aware of the implications.”
The client expressed surprise and disappointment. They questioned why someone with 2Baba’s personality would withhold their firm’s livelihood. They emphasized the impact on their employees. The firm believes the service rendered was successful and deserved payment.
Demand and Final Ultimatum
The legal demand is clear: “it is our demand that you pay to our client the sum of ₦7,000,000 (Seven million naira) being his Professional fees for the services rendered to you in facilitating the process of your tenancy.”
An “olive branch” period of seven days was offered for the payment. Failure to comply would result in further legal action. The firm stated they “won’t hesitate to take proper legal action to recover the Professional fees of our client.”
