Former Big Brother Naija star Sammie (Samuel Jacob) has revealed his struggles with depression and financial hardship following his exit from the popular reality show.
The ex-housemate described adjusting to post-show life as challenging, citing unmet expectations and the pressures of fame.
The Hidden Struggles of a Public Figure
Despite residing in the upscale Lekki area and maintaining a public persona, Sammie admitted to frequent private breakdowns due to overwhelming pressure.
He struggled to reconcile his lifestyle with his actual income, facing constant debit alerts without corresponding credits.
His participation in the 2021 BBNaija edition disrupted his education and left him directionless when public attention dwindled.
Witnessing peers succeed while he grappled with personal and financial issues compounded his distress.
These trials, however, became valuable lessons in perseverance, patience, and self-discovery for the reality star.
Raw Emotional Confession
Sammie shared: “A year after the show, I lost count of my depressive episodes. I’d sit alone in my Lekki house crying – a bearded grown man asking God why. Some days I thanked Him, others I completely broke down.”
“Income was scarce but living expenses remained. This mental conflict took its toll,” he continued. “In Lagos, I tried maintaining a ‘star boy’ image without real earnings. Watching young guys arrive in luxury cars while I ate noodles in my fine shirt – nobody knew my pain.”
