The Accord Party (AP) leadership has strongly dismissed reports of internal crisis. They described these claims as “baseless fabrications.” Political jobbers and desperate opposition elements are pushing these narratives.
Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael issued a statement. He is the Spokesperson for the Forum of State Chairmen (South West). He also serves as Accord’s Chairman in Ogun State.
The party unequivocally affirmed its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, has not been suspended. This contradicts widespread misinformation circulating online.
National Chairman’s Position Unchanged
“Rumours about our National Chairman, Mr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Esq., being suspended are absolutely false,” Hon. Rotimi explained. He stressed the reports are “totally false.”
He further clarified a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting occurred. This meeting took place on December 3, 2025. During it, a vote of confidence was passed. This covered the National Chairman and the entire National Working Committee.
“There was no disciplinary action against Mr. Mgbudem,” he emphasized. This directly counters earlier widespread misinformation. Accord remains a “law-abiding and constitutionally-guided party,” he added. “No person can bring chaos among us via baseless allegations.”
Accord Party Rejects Claims by Expelled Member
The party also rejected misleading information. It came from Prof. Chris Imumolen, a former Presidential Candidate.
A reported faction of the Accord Party had criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s defection. This group was purportedly led by Imumolen. They called Adeleke’s move a “back-door entry.” They declared it “invalid.”
The Imumolen-led faction claimed Governor Adeleke failed to follow proper party procedures. This raised serious questions. They doubted the legitimacy of his actions. They also questioned his clearance as the sole governorship candidate.
Imumolen’s Expulsion Detailed
Hon. Oke Rotimi clarified Prof. Imumolen’s status. Imumolen was formally expelled from the political party. This was due to multiple instances of anti-party conduct.
His actions included trying to assume an unauthorized leadership role. He also attempted to hijack party structures. Furthermore, he aggressively entered the national secretariat in 2024. He caused internal confusion and disregarded party procedures.
“It is comical that an expelled member still presumes to have authority within the party,” Hon. Oke stated. “All reports issued from his camp should be disregarded. They do not and will not speak for Accord.”
Governor Adeleke’s Legitimate Membership Confirmed in Osun
Pastor Victor Akande also spoke on the matter. He is the State Chairman of Accord in Osun. He refuted the claims against the party and Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Pastor Akande clarified Governor Adeleke’s formal membership. Adeleke officially joined Accord on November 6, 2025. He received public recognition from the party on December 9, 2025.
He then emerged as the valid winner. This occurred at the Accord Party Primary on December 10, 2025.
Akande challenged other political parties. He urged them to display their achievements. Instead, they should not spread deceit on social media platforms.
“Elections are not conducted on social media platforms,” he asserted. “Those serious about competing should demonstrate what they have achieved.”
He concluded firmly, “Osun State is Accord, and Accord is Osun State.”
